What is photo retouching?
Put simply, photo retouching is taking your photos and making them look better. Everyone does it. Professional photographers do it. There is absolutely no shame in doing it! It's not making yourself look smaller than you are, or bigger, though it can be. It can be as simple as adjusting the white balance to take off the indoor yellow light tinge and it can be as complicated as restoring torn and damaged photos to their former immaculate glory.
In the production of communication materials your message is what is important, and your photos help convey that message. To tell your story effectively you need the clearest, least distracting, most professional looking photos, even when you do not have access to a professional photographer, because amateur photos are distracting photos, and distractions cause noise in your message.
What do we do?
We use the latest version of Adobe's Photoshop, which everyone's heard of, to fix up your photos to however you would like them.
As standard we will fix light levels and white balance, and tweek the contrast to make your image 'pop'.
We can also work on your colour balance to bring out a particular mood, or use tools selectively to bring out particular details.
Removing blemishes (because it's inevitable that spot appears from nowhere right when you don't want it to!) is no problem, along with whitening teeth and removing stray hairs.
We are rather good at removing distractions from backgrounds, or removing backgrounds entirely, if that is what you require.
And we can collage images together too, if you fancied adding a touch of the imaginary to your shots.
Although we personally don't find the use of photoshop to invent impossible human ideals to be socially constructive, we won't judge you if you want a touch of digital cosmetic surgery done. Erasing a few wrinkles never hurt anyone.
How much do you charge?
Fees are based on the amount of work you would like done to your photos. We don't charge by the hour, because if we spend longer than we expect on our work that shouldn't be your problem, but instead offer packages based on the number of photos and the level of adjustment required, and individual photos start from £3 each. More details can be found on our fees page.
Can we see some examples of your work?
Sure you can! This first one is just a taster, use the slider to see the differences between the pictures, then click through from the 'after' shots below to compare some more to 'before' on our photo retouch gallery.
